1996 Gibson J-45 Buddy Holly, Vintage Sunburst SOLD

This is a recreation of the 1942 J-45 used by Buddy Holly but without the tooled leather cover which Buddy made for his. A run of 250 of these Buddy Holly Gibsons was made in 1996. The guitar has a Sitka Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides. White and black bound body with matching rosette. Nicely grained Rosewood bridge with bone sadddle. Early style tortoiseshell pattern pickguard. Mahogany neck with very nicely grained Rosewood fingerboard. Early style headstock with the legend 'Only a Gibson is Good Enough' inlaid in pearl. The Gibson logo is also inlaid in pearl. Nickel Kluson tuners with nickel butterbean knobs. The trussrod cover is engraved 'Buddy Holly.' officianados will realise that this is a modern upgrade since Buddy's J-45 did not have an adjustable truss rod! The other nod to modernity is an LR Baggs iBeam passive pick-up fitted with a strap button jack socket. The correct limited edition Gibson hard case is with the guitar complete with a beautiful cerise inner shroud featuring the legend 'Buddy Holly J-45 in gold.' These guitars were issued with a certificate signed by Buddy's widow but that is missing from this example. This Gibson J-45 Buddy Holly is finished in a pleasing subtle vintage sunburst and enjoys a low acton and easy-playing string tension. The sound is nicely defined and the tone is rich with good balance. It is in very good condition and was owned by me for the last seven years. Oh boy! SOLD
